50 and Fabulous!

Oh Lordy. . . Look Who's 50

In my amazing, sweating to the oldies aerobics class this morning we were jamming to Footloose. I was 10 when the movie came out. Nothing makes Gen X jam more than nostalgic movie tunes. As I turn 50 tomorrow, it occurs to me that I am now older than the reverend and the townies who banned dancing. John Lithgow was 38 when that movie came out. In the same class, we also went crazy to Tina Turner’s Rolling on the River. I remember seeing her perform that song when she was 50 - with those legs and those lungs and all the energy in the world. I was probably 19 at the time. And I remember being shocked - she could possibly be so amazing at 50.

This is 50. It’s peculiar because I want to scream it from the rafters. I made it. I think of the good friends I have lost that did not. And I am also experiencing sadness. Nobody knows how much time is left. Time suddenly seems like a scarce resource.

Hope and Freedom

But there is a freedom that comes with 50. They say it’s the testosterone. Women have been accused of turning into men after 50. Suddenly there is a freedom to say FU to the world. I neither care what you think nor do I need your validation. Turning 50 is more than just a milestone; it's a triumph. It's about celebrating the victories, honoring the losses, and embracing the journey with open arms. As someone who has navigated the complexities of age and experience, I understand the bittersweet reality of time's passage. Amidst the poignant reflections, there's hope—a reminder that with every passing year comes newfound freedom and possibility.

Coaching and Optimism

In my line of work, optimism isn't just a concept; it's a guiding principle. I am both naturally inclined and also trained to find hope in adversity, strength in vulnerability, and beauty in imperfection. I stand on the cusp of a new decade inspired by the courageous personalities I've had the privilege to coach, each a testament to the transformative power of resilience and affirmation.

So here's to 50, to second acts, and to the unwavering belief that the best is yet to come. As we dance to the rhythm of life, let's embrace the journey with courage, grace, and an unyielding spirit. For in the tapestry of existence, every age is a chapter waiting to be written—a testament to the enduring power of hope, resilience, and the human spirit. Cheers to 50, and to the boundless adventures that lie ahead!  #50andfabulous #milestonebirthday #resilience #hope #humanconnection
